Flame-red hardware kodansu (Japanese small chest) G0282

A small tansu, remade.
The metal fittings are painted flame red, and the wood is dyed black.
The lock fitting is in the shape of a hoju (wish-fulfilling jewel), an auspicious motif said to grant wishes as one desires.
Flame red has long been regarded as a color that wards off evil and holds the power of life.

The joints have been repaired and the drawers have been adjusted. There is a keyhole, but there is no key.
As this is an old piece, it has fine scratches and signs of age.
