Yellow hardware kohikidashi (Japanese small drawer chest) D0217
A kohikidashi (Japanese small drawer chest), remade.
The metal fittings are painted yellow, and the wood is finished with a clear coat that keeps the texture of the bare wood. The front uses dark solid wood.
The yellow of kihada (Amur cork tree), which has been used to dye sutras since the Asuka period.
Yellow, like gold, has been regarded as an auspicious color symbolizing wealth and prosperity.
The joints have been repaired and the drawers have been adjusted.
As this is an old piece, it has scratches and cracks, and there are several thumbtack marks on the left side.
