Antique Keyaki Wood Merchant's Tansu B0288

This is an antique merchant's chest (choba-tansu).

We have preserved the scratches, stains, and cracks acquired over time, as they add to the piece's character.

Structural issues, such as loose joints, have been repaired.

The interior of the drawers and the shelving sections have been sanded and cleaned as thoroughly as possible.

The sliding doors and drawers have been adjusted and now open and close smoothly.

There is an inscription in ink on the back of the sliding doors that reads "Meiji 12" (1879).

There is no key, and none is included. The locks have been fixed internally to prevent them from being accidentally locked.

If you pull out the bottom-right drawer, there is a small secret box hidden in the back.
