Moulding-finish kiridansu (Japanese paulownia chest) B0093-2
An old kiridansu (Japanese paulownia chest) decorated with newly made moulding.
It is finished to bring out the dry, aged texture of the wood and the simple Japanese metal fittings.
The deteriorated paint on the surface was sanded away to expose the bare wood, and a clear finish was applied that keeps the natural texture of the wood. The top is made of furniture linoleum, a natural material made mainly from linseed oil.
The drawers have been converted to slide rails and move lightly and smoothly. While keeping the distinctive atmosphere of old furniture, we have used modern hardware to make it easier to use.
There is a keyhole at the top center of the drawer front, but there is no key.
