Zelkova stool B0308

A stool made from a hard, substantial log of zelkova.
A beautiful piece full of the texture and mass of zelkova.

The whole piece was sanded to smooth the surface by removing fine scratches and water stains, then black was sprayed from the base to about the middle. The boundary between the black and the zelkova is left blurred, and the whole is protected with a clear coat.
The top shows the grain of the zelkova and the base is black, giving a distinctive finish as if it had soaked up shadow.

Chigiri (butterfly-shaped wooden keys), tool marks and smooth undulations have been worked into this stool in a fine balance. While respecting the beauty of the material and the work of the craftsmen of the time, we added a little of our own workshop's expression to the finish.
